Christmas is better when everyone's included, and that means the dog too. Whether you're filling a stocking, building a festive hamper or just want something for them to open on Christmas morning, here's our pick of Christmas gifts for dogs this year. Everything below is chosen by us and road-tested by Hugo, our resident quality-control dog.
For the countdown: Pooch Dog Advent Calendar
If you only get one thing, make it this. The Pooch advent calendar has a snowy British village scene on the front and a star-shaped treat behind every door, so your dog gets their own countdown to Christmas through December.
The treats are oven-baked on a family farm in Lincolnshire, made mainly from sweet potato with peas, fresh carrot and linseed. They're grain-free, with no added artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. £10.
For dogs who like to unwrap: Christmas Yule Log Plush Toy
The Yule Log plush toy rolls up to look like the real thing, with crinkly fabric and squeakers inside. The stuffing is made from recycled plastic bottles, and it's machine washable, which matters after a few rounds of tug on Boxing Day. 15cm x 8cm. £13.50.
For the stocking: Peanut Butter Christmas Cookies
Our Christmas cookies are handmade in small batches in festive shapes, using a grain-free peanut butter and pumpkin recipe with gram and coconut flour. They're suitable for puppies from 8 weeks. A bag tucks neatly into a stocking. £5.
For the bakers: Festive Dog Treat Kit
Fancy making something together? The Festive Dog Treat Kit makes around 40 Christmas tree biscuits and comes with a reusable cutter attached. The mix is ground peanuts, ginger and cinnamon, all natural with no artificial colours or preservatives. A lovely gift for the dog lover in your life, too. £7.50.
A few festive reminders
- Count treats as part of your dog's daily food, especially when there's an advent calendar on the go.
- Keep human Christmas food out of reach. Chocolate, grapes, raisins, sultanas (so mince pies and Christmas pudding) and onions can all be dangerous for dogs.
- Supervise your dog with new toys and treats, and keep fresh water available.
